The Challenge

Foyr Inc., a cloud-based design software, is revolutionizing how interior designers and real estate professionals bring their visions to life. Their flagship product, Foyr Neo, offers intuitive 3D design capabilities that are winning over creatives and property developers alike. However, as Foyr’s user base expanded, a critical limitation emerged: the inability to properly export floor plan drawings from their 3D designs. Users were forced to resort to taking screenshots, which became distorted when printed in large formats like A1 or A2 sizes. This wasn’t just a minor inconvenience—it was threatening Foyr’s hard-earned reputation and market position. With competitors already offering robust export features, Foyr risked losing ground in the highly competitive design software market. They needed a solution quickly to maintain their growth trajectory and keep their users satisfied. Recognizing the urgency, Foyr reached out to our team with a clear mission: to develop a floor plan export tool that could bridge the gap between their powerful 3D design capabilities and the 2D requirements of the real world.

Our Solution

We developed a sophisticated floor plan export tool utilizing FabricJS, a canvas library for the web. The core objective was to ensure that the users’ drawings on an HTML canvas could be accurately represented and printed in real-world metrics, such as a 1:25 scale ratio. This required seamlessly integrating with Foyr’s existing 3D canvas system and translating the 3D data into accurate 2D exports.

Our engagement was divided into two phases:

  • Evaluation Phase: We spent the initial months evaluating FabricJS through multiple Proofs of Concept (POCs) to ensure its suitability for the task.
  • Implementation Phase: Post-evaluation, we developed and delivered the export tool within three months. The tool enabled users to annotate and label their drawings effectively, ensuring accurate print dimensions.

Key Highlights of Our Engagement

  • Conducted initial POCs to evaluate FabricJS as the primary tool.
  • Delivered the complete solution within 3 months.
  • Implemented various annotation and labeling tools as per Foyr’s requirements.
  • Ensured compatibility with multiple scale ratios (e.g., 1:25) for accurate real-world representation
  • Synchronized the new 2D export functionality with the existing 3D canvas system.
